Launch of Rogue Trader Awareness Campaign

Central Bedfordshire Council has launched a rogue trader awareness campaign. The campaign objectives are to raise awareness of rogue trader / bogus callers and empower local residents to say no to uninvited door step callers.

The campaign kicked off on 24th August when officer from the Council’s Public Protection and Community Safety Services, assisted by Bedfordshire Police attended 8 locations across Central Bedfordshire, warning the public about the dangers posed by rogue traders and bogus callers.

Officers handed out [leaflets], offered further advice and also publicised the Trading Standards approved scheme, which enables residents to choose traders that have been vetted and approved by the service.

Approximately 2,000 people were advised on the day and the public response was very positive indeed. Requests have been received to run similar events in other locations.

Ultimately, this campaign aims to stifle any opportunities that rogue trader or bogus callers may have, to target older and vulnerable members of our communities, by highlighting the fact that these people will pose as professional tradesman in order to commit crimes such as fraud, burglary, treats and intimidation.
